Phenolic labels are engraved from two-color laminate, so the text is cut into the tag and stays readable for the life of the equipment. We make them to your size, color and wording, show the USD price before you order, and ship anywhere in the US.
Pick the kind of tag for sizes, colors and the code sections that apply.
Electrical panel labels and breaker tags
Panelboard and switchboard names, voltage and phase, fed-from and source-of-supply tags. Most contractors order these per job from the panel schedule, so the builder reads a spreadsheet and turns each row into a tag. Typical sizes run from 1 x 3 inches for a small panel ID up to 3 x 8 inches for a main switchboard. White on black is the usual default, with white on red for emergency systems and fire alarm panels.
Engraved plastic valve tags in round, square or rectangle shapes with a chain hole, numbered in runs like V-101 to V-160. Mechanical contractors usually order them straight from the valve schedule. Engraved pipe identification tags in ASME A13.1 colors are on the same page.
Laminated plastic nameplates for rooftop units, air handlers, pumps, fans, transformers and anything else on the equipment schedule. Most specs call for "engraved laminated plastic nameplates" in Division 23 or 26 identification sections, often with set colors and letter heights. Tag names match the drawings (RTU-1, AHU-2, P-3), so a spreadsheet of the equipment schedule is usually all we need.
Lamacoid is the trade word for an engraved two-color plastic tag. Order lamacoid labels, signs and plates in any size up to the sheet, in 1/16 or 1/8 inch, with adhesive or holes. The page covers what the material is, phenolic vs acrylic, and the spellings you will see on specs.
Arc flash labels built from your study data, plus DANGER, WARNING and CAUTION plates in ANSI Z535 colors. Engineering firms and facility teams send the study export as a spreadsheet, and each row becomes a tag with the nominal voltage, arc flash boundary, incident energy and working distance. Engraving makes sense in hot, dirty or washdown areas where printed labels fade or lift.
Rapid shutdown placards, PV system disconnect tags, DC voltage labels, point of interconnection labels and the 705.10 directory placard with a site map. The builder has a solar kit mode that starts from the system type and fills in the standard set, which you then edit for the job. Engraved placards outlast reflective vinyl on south-facing walls and are the safer choice where the inspector wants permanent markings.
Device and component ID tags, panel door nameplates and push button or pilot light legend plates in 22 mm and 30 mm sizes. Panel shops build the same panel more than once, so every order can be saved as a job file and reordered with changes. We make the identification and legend tags. The UL 508A listing mark itself comes from UL, not from a tag supplier.
1/16 inch for adhesive and small tags. 1/8 inch for large plates and anything screwed or riveted.

Phenolic label prices
Price per tag is the billed area times the rate for the thickness. Each side rounds up to the next whole inch. Rates are provisional: $0.79 per square inch for 1/16 inch and $0.93 for 1/8 inch.
Phenolic labels are rigid engraved tags cut from two-layer laminate. The engraver removes the colored cap so the core color shows through as the letters. They are used on electrical panels, breakers, valves, machines and equipment because the text cannot rub off or fade like ink.
Are phenolic tags the same as lamacoid tags?
Yes. Phenolic tag, phenolic label, lamacoid and lamicoid all describe the same engraved two-color plastic tag. Lamacoid is the name we use. Phenolic is the word most US specs use.
How much do custom phenolic labels cost?
Price is the billed area times a rate for the thickness. Each side rounds up to the next whole inch. At the provisional rates a 1 x 3 inch tag in 1/16 inch is $2.37 and a 2 x 4 inch tag in 1/8 inch is $7.44.
Do you ship phenolic labels nationwide?
Yes. Every order is engraved in Burlington, Ontario and shipped to any US address. Shipping is quoted with the order, and turnaround times will be posted when online checkout opens.
Which thickness should I pick?
Use 1/16 inch for adhesive tags, breaker tags and legend plates. Use 1/8 inch for large nameplates and anything screwed, riveted or chained.
Built for the panel door
Phenolic laminate holds up to heat, UV and cleaning. Adhesive backing goes on clean metal and stays put. Add mounting holes if you rivet or screw them.
